About otalite

From the workbench to the field.

otalite is built by a DIY enthusiast, for makers, hobbyists and teams taking an ESP32 prototype to production: the update service we wished we'd had.
Where it started

A side project that grew up.

otalite started on a workbench covered in ESP32 boards. A side project grew into devices that had to keep working out in the field, on batteries, far from a USB cable.
Updating them was the hard part: signing releases, rolling them out without bricking anything, and not flattening the batteries in the process. Each piece existed somewhere, but never together, and never for MicroPython.
So we are building the update service we wished we'd had: secure by default, careful with every milliamp, and honest about what's ready.
Who it's for

From hobby project to product.

For anyone scaling a MicroPython idea from a few boards on the bench to devices in the field, and for the companies that run them.

Makers and hobbyists

A MicroPython idea on your bench, ready for real devices in real places.

Small teams

A product of tens to thousands of devices, without a firmware-platform team.

Companies

Fleets that need signed releases, staged rollouts and clear release management.
What we care about

Three things, in this order.

1

Battery life

Every choice is weighed against the battery. The radio stays off when it can.
2

Security

Devices install only what you signed, and check it themselves.
3

Honesty

We say what's built, what's planned and what we're still exploring.
